Equines Assisting Special Individuals

Letters From the Director

Message from the Executive Director

I dreamed of a place where abused or neglected children, a child who needs special assistance could experience unconditional love and acceptance.

A place where a mother, mourning her own precious child, turns unbearable pain into joy by helping that child, excited beyond containment as she is gently lifted to the back of a horse, and in her own way asks the horse to, “Walk on.”

I dreamed of a place where recovering addicts, searching for life purpose, could realize God does have plans for them – wonderful plans. A place where a boy with autism finally says his first words, “Whoa Doc” as his mother watches from the arena fence, realizing newfound hope.

These dreams are not strangers to me. I have been dreaming them since I was a young woman; when I witnessed the healing power of horses firsthand.

A dear childhood friend of mine suffered severe injuries in a car accident. When she asked my father to help her get back in the saddle he gently sat her atop his massive roping horse, Custo. As Custo followed my father’s directions to a tee, my friends expressions of pain turned to pure joy. Her limbs moved more freely and she appeared not to be injured at all.

I was in awe as I witnessed the transformations in my friend and in Custo, normally a serious, no-nonsense roping competitor; now a gentle giant, moving ever so slowly as he too knew how precious the person on his back was.

Now those dreams have come to life, Equines Assisting Special Individuals (EASI) provides safe and effective therapeutic horseback riding activities for individuals with disabilities and special needs in Walker County Alabama and surrounding areas.

Please enjoy your visit with us on the web, and if you have time come visit us at the barn and enjoy my dream too!
